Frisco Highline Trail: Coates Branch Streambank Stabilization

Category News, Projects | Posted on April 16, 2019

Our recent streambank repair project stabilized 270 feet of the Coates Branch stream bank at mile 21 on the Frisco Highline Trail in Polk County. This project has been crucial for slowing and reducing the amount of non-point source pollution entering the Little Sac Watershed and also to preserve the trail corridor.

Ozark Greenways contracted with Wildscape Environmental Services for this design-build project. They're a mission-driven company that strives to use nature’s design to restore and enhance streams and wetlands while weighing the interests of people and the environment equally to create sustainable solutions that benefit the surrounding communities and ecosystem.

We also partnered with Watershed Committee of the Ozarks and Missouri State University Student, Ashley C. – the recipients of a $30,000 grant from Coca-Cola’s ‘Dear Future’ campaign to address water quality in the Ozarks. Bass Pro Shops provided a  $7,500 grant, and we were also awarded a $19,000 grant from the Louis L. and Julia Dorothy Coover Charitable Foundation. Ozark Greenways provided project oversight and $4,000 from our operational budget to complete this substantial capital improvement to the Frisco Highline Trail.

We rely on the enthusiasm and financial support of the community.
