Member Spotlight: O'Reilly Auto

Developing a wellness program for a Fortune 500 company is no easy task, but Chris Baker is up for the challenge. Chris began two years ago, using skills from his background in coaching soccer, to serve as the on-site ‘health coach’ for local O’Reilly Auto Parts employees. His goal is to educate team members about how to find healthy lifestyle choices that work for them for the long-term. It might seem a bit unusual for a car parts corporation to support active transportation, but OAP’s commitment to helping create a healthy city is what led them to become a sponsor of Bike to Work Week in Springfield!
Chris focuses on helping people make wise habits to last a lifetime. This is tough to do in a society obsessed with sugary foods and drinks. Events like B2WW can influence employees to choose active transportation as part of an exercise routine, though he says good choices are more about individual perspectives and personal motivations. The trails and bike routes are fun, free and appeal to a wide range of people.
“People don’t want to be preached at about what they should or shouldn’t be doing. It’s really about how to change someone’s mindset. It all comes down to choices.” —Chris Baker, Wellness Coordinator
