Chadwick Flyer Trail: Kissick Ave. to Sunshine St. Open House Information & Comment Opportunity

The focus of the February 20, 2024, open house was to share information and provide another opportunity for residents to review and comment on the proposed Chadwick Flyer trail alignment between Kissick Avenue and Sunshine Street in Springfield, MO. This area is the dark purple line on the below map. The yellow lines identify planned trails. The solid green lines identify built trails. The dashed green lines identify trail construction projects that are funded.

The drop-in open house was from 4:30-6:30 pm at the Missouri Job Center in Southern Hills Shopping Center. Our first attendee arrived at 4:15 pm and our last attendee left at 6:35 pm! A total of 58 folks signed in and thirteen comment cards were received. Welcoming remarks were made at 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

Project Information

  • Ozark Greenways contracted with Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) to conduct a more in-depth study of the rail corridor between Kissick Ave. and Sunshine St.  Project partners are studying this segment to determine how this trail, the Lake Springfield Plan, the James River Greenway trail, and the Galloway Creek Greenway trail may best integrate. Project partners include the City of Springfield, Springfield-Greene County Parks, Ozarks Transportation Organization, and Ozark Greenways. 
  • An open house and commenting period was provided for adjacent landowners on August 15, 2023. 
  • The Chadwick Flyer Trail is included in the following adopted plans:  the Forward SGF Comprehensive Plan, the Springfield-Greene County Parks & Recreation Plan, and the 2017 Ozarks Transportation Regional Trail Study.
  • The City of Springfield and BNSF are negotiating for the City of Springfield to acquire this corridor for future trail use. 
  • Please note that additional funding, design, engineering, permitting, and public input will be conducted before trail segment(s) are constructed.
  • The paved trails in the Springfield-Greene County service area are maintained and managed by the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
