Chestnut Expressway Underpass Completed

Category News | Posted on June 2, 2015

Thanks to Springfield Public Works, the Chestnut Expressway underpass opened this past May along "The Link", providing cyclists and pedestrians a safe comfortable place to cross under this busy roadway by way of Sherman Avenue on the west side of OTC's campus.

This important segment also joins with Jordan Creek Greenway in both directions: south to downtown, and north through historic Silver Springs and Smith parks. Major roadways like this are rarely designed for those traveling by bike or on foot, but the old-fashioned approach is changing. Springfield City Council unanimously passed a "Complete Streets" policy in December 2014! This means that all users (sometimes called multi-modal) must be considered in city transportation projects.

Your voice is important in the planning process, so please call or email to share your view about the importantce of providing multimodal choices as we plan for the future of the Springfield community. Contact Springfield City Hall about how to best share your support for more and better trails and routes, by calling (417) 864-1000, or emailing info@springfieldmo.gov

We rely on the enthusiasm and financial support of the community.
